I grew up in the 1980’s, a movie actor and the son of a producer. There were no limits to the way we lived. Everyone around me acted like they were God. But that was probably due to all the cocaine that flowed in on every breeze. Sure, from the outside everything looked fine and dandy. And I won’t lie, it certainly was a lot of fun. But after a certain point the fun stopped and a dark world took its place. The blow began to take hold on pretty much everyone I knew. Very successful people in the industry, who had the world in the palm of their hands, now had cocaine addictions in the core of their beings. No one knew it would happen. It always started out innocently enough. Just try a little at a party and have a good time. Pretty soon events would be fueled by blow. Everyone thought that they were immune or not doing coke enough to become addicted. They told themselves that one bump in the morning to get going was normal and o.k. Maybe have another one because lunch was skipped. And maybe a few in between meetings. But before anyone knew, it would be evening, and that’s the time to party so… And in the 80’s it basically was normal, but never o.k.
Overeaters Anonymous Principles
Even felt like eating another slice of that chocolate cake you had fifteen minutes ago? Sometimes, we eat more than what we need. We eat not only to be full and to gratify our physical needs. More often, we eat because it makes us feel good for a moment. We eat because it is our way of running away from the negative emotions we feel. When we feel depressed, we eat. We use food as oursafe haven, a sort of security blanket amidst our insecurities towards the world.

Positive Effects of a Twelve Step Campus
While going to college I have seen first hand how a 12 step campus can help a person. While not an addict myself, I have drug users in my family, and my group of friends. One best friends began attending a anonymous groupon campus 90 days ago and the results have been extraordinary. She has taken that brave first step of admission, and surrendered her pride to a higher power alongside a group of supporters. This has enabled her to curb her addiction one day at a time. The twelve step campus she is a member of makes her feel able to stand tall in tough situations where her addiction could normally get the better of her. Within ninety days she has increased her positive energy, her healthy habits and most of all, her enjoyment of life. She writes in her book every night after doing her homework and before going to sleep, about the journey she accomplished that day. She calls her sponsor at 6:45 every morning before class to commit her plan for the day. The amount of dedication she has to this 12 step school of thought is admirable and makes me question what I’m missing out on. I claim no dangerous habits of my own, but is that the truth?
